Giant Dead Manzanita Tree

by Ron
(Cortes Island BC)

After an unsuccessful attempt to hike up to the top of Mt Denman, we had to abort and head down the mountain.

The next day we headed home through Desolation Sound and stopped for a swim at some wonderful little islands.

I found a giant dead Manzanita tree about 8 inches in diameter at the base and took that part home. I was able to make four large wood spatulas from the gorgeous Manzanita wood.

I gave one to each of the four of us as a souvenir of that trip.

Even though we never made it to the top, it was a fun trip and a memory topped off with the treasure.

It is so rare to find a piece of wood big enough to make what I did. My buddies were so happy to have the gift!
