Using a Madrone branch for art...

I found a really nice shaped branch of madrone that I would like to use as a wall hanging. Do you know if I need to do anything to seal it or guard against bugs? Thank you!

Once dry,rub with walnut oil, and very year or 2 do it again. It will also make it look real nice. Any walnut oil will do.
