Do you know how to dry arbutus seeds/berries so that they retain their awesome color? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks so much for your web page and any info you can give me!

Arbutus Berries NEW
by: Arbutus Ron

Arbutus berries naturally darken to a deep red as they dry. That is what makes them so hard and useful as a necklace.

Try an experiment on a few berries as you set them out to dry and apply a touch of coconut oil on them and see what happens. Maybe that will do the trick, or it will cause them to rot. But maybe it can help!

Let us know what happens!

Hi Ruthie,

The red Arbutus tree berries are easy to dry. They do shrink while doing so but will be hard as a rock and have a deep red color that they retain.

You can make a gorgeous necklace by stringing them with a needle and tough thread or fish line. Just hang them to dry when done. Do this when still fresh and moist.

Or if you don't want them on a string, then spread them out to dry.

You can gather the berries over the next month or two of autumn days.

Have fun and do send a picture and let me know how you make out.

Ron
