Drinkable Cup finish

I'm making a cup from wood and I was wondering if i can use "MINWAX water based ,oil modified, polyurethane for a drinkable finish. It is wood from home hardware and quite soft.

Ron here...

Well polyurethane is toxic but if it dries to a rock hard finish it may be safe. Hot liquids could modify it though. And soft wood may be too porous for a real tight finish. Best to speak to the manufacturer.

I would use plain wood without a finish of any kind. That would be safest for liquids especially if hot.
