Polyurethane on bread box

by stephanie

My son made me a bread box in wood class. He brought it home and stained it, then applied a coat of polyurethane. We let it air out for a couple of days. However, anything stored in it, like a loaf of bread or bagels, etc... end up absorbing the smell through their packaging. Can you tell me what we can do to get rid of the smell?

Arbutus Ron here:

I would let it air out some more. The smell should with time dissipate, and then it will be OK.
