Tips of Madrone limbs turning black

Hi,

We live in Sonoma County CA and have a fair amout of Madrone trees on our property. We have been here since the mid '70s and have noticed many of our Madrones will start with some die-back that turns black and continues back until the entire branch is dead and will often go into the more substantial part of the tree and we will often end up with a dead tree. It takes years, but it continues until it takes its toll. We usually cut these branches off, but that doesn't seem to stop it. Any advice?

Thanks

Sad when the Arbutus tree turns black. From what I understand this is a disease process and it will have to run its course. Hopefully new trees will sprout.
