Will my branch rot

A tree came down in the winter storm and I salvaged a big beautiful branch. I plan on using it as a banister in a tiny house in a few years. How to I preserve it till then. It's not convenient to keep inside due to its size. Will it rot outside?

Yes it will rot outside...

You can try covering it with a tarp but arbutus if on the ground will deteriorate.
