Wooden sink and / or bathtub

by GIllian

I am considering making a wooden bathtub but, before I get too far into it and excited about it is there a chemical free option for sealing and / or waterproofing that you recommend?

I notice that the options above make things water resistant but, I am concerned that with something that is frequently wet that I will be rubbing oil onto their surfaces weekly just to protect them.

At the same time I don't want to be soaking in a bathtub and have the chemicals seeping into the water and being drawn into my skin. EW!

Any suggestions (even on where to go and look) are very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Gillian.

Arbutus Ron here...

Any natural finish would not work with hot water that I know of.

Get a very high tech varathane-type finish that is impervious to water once dry.
